My New Simple Pleasure – Handmade Door wreaths!
I started meme bete as an outlet, a means to explore my creativity. Since leaving St. Lucia, being away from my Atelier has been hard, because it was the best part of my day. I would be physically tired, bent over a machine all day, wreaking of contact cement and leather, dusty, fingers cut, glue everywhere, but somehow this was it for me. It took me a while to realize that being out of that environment took something away from me. Without this creative outlet meme bete became like a chore. I don’t like the selling part of this job, I enjoy the creative side. But realistically speaking I need to sell in order to create. It was a double edged sword.
Sometime during the pandemic I decided to make handmade door wreaths. This is nothing I’m familiar and something we only had on our door in St. Lucia at Christmas time. But I decided to make one for Easter. Easter turned into summer, into Fall and then Christmas and slowly I began building a collection of handmade door wreaths. This made me realize that when I’m not creating I lose my spark. And that just because I’m not sewing bags doesn’t mean I can’t find something meaningful to do with my talents! So my love affair (or obsession) with wreath making began.
I look back on my earlier wreaths and it’s amazing to see the progress over the 2 years. I’m more familiar with techniques, styles shapes and sizes. You can see the tremendous improvement when you compare these 2 wreaths.

This one just looks untidy to me. This looks, cleaner, and more modern. Check out how I made it here.
I even did these cute pumpkin shaped ones for Thanksgiving! And filmed a tutorial of course!
While I don’t usually sell these, a few people have been kindly and relentlessly asking me to make a few to sell. So check out the video below of the cute Valentine’s Day one I made. And with the pink gnome I do believe this can stay on your door till Easter!
